Tashkent is not only the capital of Uzbekistan, but also one of the oldest cities in Central Asia. The city is famous for its monumental mosques and madrassas, which delight with complex mosaics with rich colors. The emergence of easel painting in Uzbekistan occurred in the first half of the twentieth century. Pavel Petrovich Benkov did a lot for the formation of Uzbek painting, after whom the art school in Tashkent is named. In 1920-30’s . In the XX century in Samarkand there was an association of artists whose work is now called the Central Asian avant-garde. Tashkent, as the cultural center of Uzbekistan, has become a magnet for all the creators of the country.

The editorial office of Art of Her has prepared a GUIDE to interesting galleries and museums in Tashkent, which are mandatory for tourists.

Gallery of Fine Arts of Uzbekistan

Галерея изобразительных искусств Узбекистана — относительно молодой музей, в котором представлена в основном живопись с конца XIX века по наше время. В его основе лежит коллекция живописи Национального банка внешнеэкономической деятельности Узбекистана (НБУ), которая была основана в 1994 году. Музей занимает 15 залов и включает в себя 7 больших экспозиций на 2 этажах. Начинается экспозиция с классической узбекской миниатюры сер. XIX века авторства художника Ахмада Дониша.

Autograph Art Gallery

The Autograph Art Gallery of Fine and Applied Arts opened in 2016. Among the works presented in the spacious, bright halls of the gallery, visitors can see the works of recognized authors and talented young artists, sculptors and designers of Uzbekistan.

Sogdiana Art Center

The national art center "Sogdiana", which includes more than 20 workshops, is located in the capital of Uzbekistan – Tashkent. Art galleries and creative studios from beginning artists and professionals of folk and applied art are located on 1600 square meters. A special place in the art center is occupied by art galleries, where exhibitions of paintings by contemporary Uzbek artists are held almost every month.
