A woman stole an exhibit "Jacket with postcards" from the Picasso Museum

When Catalan artist Aureol Vilanova exhibited a jacket filled with postcards that visitors could take off and view at the Picasso Museum in Paris, he could not imagine that someone would go too far.

While in custody, the pensioner, who, according to Le Parisien, was "passionate" about art, immediately confessed to stealing the jacket, but said she did not realize that it was a work of art. The police searched her house, where they found a jacket with cropped sleeves.

After several hours of questioning, the prosecutor's office released the woman with a warning and closed the case. According to Le Parisien, the woman was placed under guardianship.

Vilanov's works belong to his series "Old Masters" (2017-2021), in which the pockets of the blue jacket were filled with postcards with images of the works of major figures in the history of art. At the Picasso Museum, the jacket was filled with postcards bought at flea markets and museum stores, with images of Picasso's works. The jacket appeared next to a black-and-white photograph of Picasso in his studio and was presented at "Picasso à l'image" (until February 12, 2023) - a thematic exhibition of the museum's collection with archival photographs, films and documentaries.
