The National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan has opened a personal exhibition «Asyl Mura» by Kazakh artist Mukhtar Baibosyn, dedicated to the personalities who have set the basis of Kazakh culture of the XIX-XX centuries, reports BaigeNews.kz.

The exhibition presents 27 works, primarily portraits of musicians and plots of their songs, through which the author wanted to show the richness of traditions of song art and Kyiv.

The very process of creating the image is not easy, I had to search for information in libraries, watch movies, communicate with scientists, and historians, and collect piece by piece knowledge about my characters. Also, various paintings, drawings, and sketches helped me. After that, I thought over the composition of my paintings and tried to combine them in one style and one story. My artworks are mostly oil paintings on canvas in warm, stable colors. Colors were chosen based on the plot, theme, and dynamics of a song or other musical work», - said Mukhtar Baibosyn.

The artist plans to create a new series of works dedicated to modern Kazakh cultural figures.

“According to Kazakh history, great importance is given to musical creativity during the Great Patriotic War. These are Kulyash Baiseitova, Zhusupbek Elebekov, Kali Baizhanov, and many other Kazakh musicians of the Soviet period. I would like to portray such people in my future works,” said Baibosyn.

Ayagoz Sultanova, Head of the Excursion Service Department of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, has explained that this exhibition is part of a large project by Mukhtar Baibosyn. In 2017, the National Museum hosted his exhibition dedicated to the musicians of the 17th century, and in 2018 – to the musicians of the 18th century. We are planning an exhibition about Soviet-era artists.

The museum employee noted that the drawings of the painters are not just portraits of composers, musicians, or poets, but compositions consisting of backgrounds, where he depicts the main moments of their lives and the plot of their songs. Beyond that, the portraits are complemented by landscapes of northern and central Kazakhstan, as most of the artist’s characters come from there. Basically, the scenery of Burabai, Targabatay and Bayanaula.
