A personal exhibition of Bakhyt Bubikanova, one of the brightest figures among the representatives of the younger generation of Kazakhstani artists, will be held in Almaty from December 4, 2021 to January 31, 2022, the correspondent reports Tengrinews.kz.

She completes a series of monographic exhibitions of Central Asian women artists at Aspan Gallery. The outgoing year 2021 was dedicated to the bright representatives of Central Asian contemporary art. Each artist presented her newest works in various media: the year began with videos and installations by Saodat Ismailova, followed by bright felt canvases by Gulnur Mukazhanova, after which Dilara Kaipova's gowns made of felt fabrics attracted attention. The final exhibition of 2021 will be dedicated to new works by Bakhyt Bubikanova.

The exhibition "Talents conquer centuries ... or How not to become Hitler", on which the artist has been working for the last two years, will rethink the gallery space, dividing it into two parts, which symbolize the two sides of the mask — the external and internal world of the artist. At the opening of the exhibition, guests will expect a performance by Bakhyt Bubikanova and the curator of the exhibition — Bishkek artist Marat Rayymkulov. During the performance, the entrance to the second part of the exhibition, to the world hidden from prying eyes, will be "cut through".

Especially for the exhibition, Bakhyt Bubikanova created a series of paintings in the style of oriental miniature, which will be waiting for the audience in the space of the boudoir bar, as well as a new video dedicated to the artist's teacher Moldakul Narymbetov, and a monumental installation in which the author examines the aesthetics of a typical Soviet fence, which can be seen in the second hall.

According to the curator of the exhibition Marat Rayymkulov, the artist often turns to the surface in her work, whether it is a national carpet, a mattress or, in the end, a fence. And the surface in our everyday life is constantly filled with slogans, appeals, advertising images, tattoos and something similar, and our existence is ultimately determined by consent or resistance to these images on the surface.

"Bakhyt's works often call in a contradictory way to see the surface itself behind these images and overcome the hypnotic influence of this screen. The most interesting thing, perhaps, is the simplicity and improvisation of the performance, the way Bakhyt does it. The very name of the exhibition suggests to us that we are talking about two or more exhibition spaces separated by the very surface that is constantly being explored or even tested by Bakhyt. And we will stand by and are ready to help if necessary",

– added Marat Rayymkulov.

Part of the title of the exhibition "Talents are conquered for centuries ..." was taken from the festival of creative youth of the same name held in Almaty, in which Bakhyt Bubikanova took part. The second part refers to the theory that no horror of fascism could have happened if Adolf Hitler had not been rejected by competitions and universities as an artist.

"There is a whole show waiting for you at the exhibition, I'm sure you haven't seen this at exhibitions yet. There will be a number of performances, and they will tell you about themselves. In order not to keep you in the dark, I will say that they are about the Truth. Each of my exhibitions is important at the stage of my life at which it was created. The exhibition "Talents are conquered for centuries ... or How not to become Hitler" is the final show of these two years: what happened before, during and after it. Because life does not stop and I have no right to end it",

— the artist told me.
