The mural "Waiting" created in 2019 by famous artists Saule Suleimenova and Kuanysh Bazargaliev was painted over in autumn 2022, reports Art of Her.
Saule Suleimenova announced this on her Instagram page.
"No one warned us. If they needed to update the walls, they could have neatly whitewashed around the figures like they wanted. It's horrible."
However, after a public outcry, the akim of the city, Yerbolat Dosayev, met with the artists.
"Today we met with the akim and his people and they offered to restore the mural. I will carry out the author's supervision," Suleimenova wrote on Instagram.
According to local authorities, the mural was painted over because of the restoration of the historical facade of the house.
"There is an agreement between the contracting company and the authors of the mural on copyright supervision and restoration of the image from October 21 this year. The company will restore the mural at its own expense, "- reported in the district akimat.
Mural "Waiting" was created within the IV International Festival of Monumental Art MURAL FEST. The work was located on the facade of a residential building on Seyfullin Street in Almaty.
