The Turner Prize-nominated artist Tracey Emin is about to open an art school and museum in her hometown of Margate, England.
A school called TKE Studios — in honor of her full name Tracy Karima Emin — will be housed in a former bathhouse and morgue five minutes from her studio. Emin said she wants to convert this place into 30 studios for future art students. In recent years, the British artist has publicly talked about her struggle with squamous cell bladder cancer, which led to a hysterectomy. After the diagnosis, she began to pay more and more attention to preserving her heritage. She also plans to launch an art review program that can attract talented artists to her hometown for permanent residence.
